Protect Your Little One’s Teeth and Maintain Outstanding Dental Health

Fluoride is a mineral that prevents tooth decay and is found in many sources, including toothpaste, mouthwash and even some foods. However, professional fluoride treatment services offered by Kids Care Dental provide a more concentrated and effective dose of fluoride that significantly reduces the risk of cavities and other dental problems in children.

You can trust our team to protect and maintain your little one’s smile and schedule an appointment with us online!

Why Is Fluoride Treatment Important for Kids?

When the bacteria in our mouths feed on the sugars and starches from the food we eat, they release acids that can weaken the protective layer of the teeth. This protection is called enamel, and tooth decay occurs when it starts to break down.

Fluoride makes enamel stronger, therefore, more resistant to acid attacks. With habitual application, it can even reverse the early signs of tooth decay. Regular toothpaste is a great way to incorporate fluoride into a child’s routine, but sometimes, this isn’t enough. For this reason, fluoride treatments are recommended by dentists to ensure that children’s teeth receive adequate protection since they are more susceptible to decay.

Are Fluoride Treatments Safe for Children?

As parents, it’s normal to have concerns about the safety of our children whenever they need to undergo dental procedures. However, you do not need to worry if they require fluoride treatment at the dentist. The mineral is perfectly safe for kids as long as it is administered correctly.

While there can be risks associated with excessive fluoride intake, the amount used in fluoride treatments at Kids Care Dental is carefully regulated and considered safe for children. However, if you have concerns about your kid getting an excess, you can always talk to your fluoride dentist so they can help you determine the correct dosage your child needs. Our team is always happy to answer any questions to make your little one’s appointment stress-free.

Our Fluoride Treatment Process

A fluoride treatment at the dentist is a quick and painless procedure. It starts with cleaning the child’s teeth to rid of any plaque that may be present. This step is essential since fluoride can only penetrate the tooth’s enamel when it is thoroughly clean.

Next, a fluoride gel, foam or varnish is applied using a brush or tray. The solution is left on the teeth to penetrate the enamel properly. While waiting, your child will be advised to spit out any excess gel so they won’t accidentally ingest the fluoride solution. The wait time can be 10 to 15 minutes, but you can expect the entire procedure to conclude in half an hour.

Fluoride lasts several months on the teeth, and it’s advisable to have it reapplied every three to six months for maximum protection.

Compassionate Care Even After the Procedure

Our dentists understand that proper fluoride treatment aftercare is as important as the procedure itself. After your child’s appointment, their fluoride dentist will provide instructions to ensure effective and long-lasting treatment.

Here are the usual fluoride treatment aftercare directions that may be given to your child for the six hours following the procedure:

  • Avoid brushing or flossing
  • Avoid drinking hot or cold beverages
  • Avoid acidic or sugary foods and drinks
  • Avoid eating hard, crunchy foods

Make sure to help your kid follow the dentist’s instructions so the fluoride treatment effectively protects their teeth and prevents future dental problems.
