Dental Procedures Designed for Your Child’s Comfort and Well-Being

When it comes to oral diseases or conditions that affect your child, Kids Care Dental is your one-stop shop for quality pediatric dental services. We have the expertise and state-of-the-art facilities to deliver various treatment options.

As much as possible, we explore less invasive treatments with minimal long-term effects. In some cases, however, we must explore options like tooth extraction when other treatment options are ineffective or impractical. Our team is committed to making the procedure as comfortable as possible for your child while providing aftercare to minimize its effects on your child’s speech, development, and movement.

Book an appointment in any of our locations in California to discuss tooth extractions, potential alternatives, and more.

Why Does My Child Need Tooth Extractions?

It’s normal for younger children to experience loose teeth that eventually fall out. Most kids do not need to go to the dentist for loose teeth. However, if your child has teeth exhibiting the following, your dentist may recommend having them extracted:

  • Severe tooth decay that can’t be fixed with less invasive procedures such as fillings;
  • Overcrowded jaws that could cause developmental issues as they grow older;
  • A physical injury that damages their tooth beyond repair;
  • Braces that require some teeth to be pulled out before installation.

Most dentists only recommend tooth extractions as a last resort when no other treatments will do.

Our Tooth Extraction Procedure

Depending on your child’s dental condition and the reason for their tooth extraction, your child may have a simple extraction procedure involving local anesthetic or a more complex one with IV sedation.

After the anesthetic or sedation has been administered, an experienced dentist will perform the extraction. Simple extractions are quick and painless and involve loosening and gently pulling out your child’s tooth. More complex procedures require invasive steps, such as separating teeth from the jaw bone.

At Kids Care Dental, we understand that tooth extractions can be unsettling and scary for your kids. Our staff will take steps to ensure your child understands why the procedure is necessary and then make the experience as pleasant as possible. From our child-friendly facilities to our friendly dental staff, we try to ease your child’s anxiety and minimize the discomfort of the process.

Tooth Extraction Aftercare and Healing

Tooth extractions aren’t just about pulling teeth. Following the procedure, the extraction could affect your child’s speech, how they move their jaw, or how their permanent teeth develop. From dealing with post-procedure discomfort to preventing complications, our team is here to help your child as they recover.

Most children recover from tooth extractions with no complications. Tooth extraction pain can be addressed through over-the-counter pain relievers, home remedies, and diets consisting of softer foods over the next few days. The pain may subside after several days, though tooth extraction healing can take several weeks.

After your child recovers, our team can proceed with additional treatment plans such as braces, oral appliances, or taking steps to prevent complications from the extracted tooth as the area heals.
